Child in hospital after nearly drowning in Independence pond Thursday morning
A child was taken to the hospital Thursday after falling in a pond near an Independence elementary school, police said.
Officers responded around 9:30 a.m. to a pond in the former Rockwood Golf Club after a child had fallen in, said Jack Taylor, a spokesman with the Independence Police Department.
Police got the child out of the pond and performed CPR, Taylor said. The child was taken to the hospital.
The pond was near Korte Elementary School in Independence, but district officials confirmed the child is not a student at any schools in the district and would not have traveled on Independence School District transportation.
