Kansas City police are investigating after a single vehicle crash left one person seriously injured Sunday.

Police were called just after 1:30 p.m. Sunday to a crash in the 12000 block of North Winan Avenue, Sgt. Jake Becchina, a spokesman for the Kansas City Police Department, said in an email.

The driver of a Ford Fusion car was headed south on Winan Avenue, a dead end road, “at a high rate of speed” and failed to stop driving where the road ends, according to the crash report.

“The Ford traveled approximately 30 yards into the wood line before striking a large tree head on,” Becchina said.

The driver was hospitalized with serious injuries, police said. As of Sunday afternoon the driver was in stable condition.
