A motorcyclist was hospitalized with critical injuries after crashing into a Kansas City school bus transporting a dozen kids on Friday afternoon through the East Community Team South neighborhood, according to police.

Officers responded just before 2 p.m. to a report of a crash near the intersection of 24th Street and Quincy Avenue involving a motorcycle reportedly driving at a high speed. By Friday afternoon the driver of the motorcycle, the only person injured, was listed in stable condition, police said.

Crash investigators found Friday that the school bus, which had 12 children on board, was traveling south on Quincy Avenue as the motorcyclist went through the stop-sign intersection and hit the side of the bus.

Kansas City police continued to investigate the crash as of Friday.
