Kansas City police said a man suffered serious injuries after he was ejected from a motorcycle in a single vehicle crash just east of downtown.

A man was hospitalized early Saturday morning with serious injuries after being ejected from a motorcycle in a single-vehicle crash, police said.

He was driving a black Honda 125cc motorcycle shortly before 1:30 a.m. and heading east on Independence Avenue, said Officer Donna Drake, a spokeswoman with the Kansas City Police Department.

While he was near Cypress Avenue, he suddenly lost control of the motorcycle, went off the road and struck a curb. He was ejected and was not wearing a helmet, Drake said.

He was taken to an area hospital.
