At least 10 people were displaced following an apartment complex fire Thursday morning in Overland Park, according to fire officials.

Crews were called just before 4:30 a.m. to the Meadowlark Hill Apartments in the 9100 block of Robinson Street, said Jason Rhodes, a spokesman for the Overland Park Fire Department, in a news release.

Firefighters reported smoke showing from the two-story apartment building and searched the building to ensure all occupants had escaped, Rhodes said. Additional firefighters were brought in to help crews battle a blaze in a second-story wall of the building, he said.

Firefighters spent almost an hour and a half battling the fire. It was located in an exterior wall and “required significant work to dig out,” Rhodes said.

No injuries were reported. Six units in the building are uninhabitable, and at least 10 residents have been displaced, Rhodes said.

Apartment complex management and the Red Cross are helping displaced residents find a place to stay, he said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
