The colorful skyline of downtown Kansas City had a competitor Saturday night.
About a mile south of the downtown loop, on the grounds of the World War I Museum and Memorial, several hot air balloons were lighting up the night sky to the delight of thousands of visitors who came to see the Great Balloon Glow.
The giant balloons were tethered to the ground so they wouldn’t float away while their pilots fired up the gas powered burners to create giant flames inside the balloons’ envelopes. The light from the flame inside the balloons shines through the colorful, translucent cloth of the balloons’ envelopes and they glow bright against the night sky.
This was the second year for the event.
