One person died after a high-speed collision Tuesday night in Kansas City, according to police.

Investigators responded after a gold Toyota Avalon struck a gold Chevrolet Tahoe just before 10 p.m. Tuesday night at Linwood and Van Brunt boulevards, Officer Donna Drake, a spokeswoman with the Kansas City Police Department, said in a news release.

The Chevrolet sped southbound on Van Brunt Boulevard when it failed to stop at a red light and was hit by the Toyota, which was traveling westbound through a green light on Linwood Boulevard, Drake said.

Then, the Chevrolet rolled onto its left side and partially ejected the driver, who wasn’t wearing a seat belt, Drake said. The driver of the Chevrolet was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Toyota was not injured.

This is the 54th traffic fatality recorded in Kansas City this year, according to police data, compared to 41 fatalities at this time last year.
