A motorcyclist was killed in a crash Sunday after driving into oncoming traffic, colliding into another vehicle and going airborne, a Kansas City police spokeswoman said.

A black Harley Davidson speeding northbound on Broadway Boulevard crossed over the center yellow lines and struck a yellow Volkswagen Beetle head-on near 18th Street and Broadway, said Capt. Leslie Foreman, a spokeswoman for the Kansas City Police Department.

The motorcyclist was ejected, and struck the Volkswagen’s windshield with his head and body, Foreman said. He was transported to a local hospital and died there due to his injuries. The motorcyclist had been wearing a helmet.

The driver and passenger of the Volkswagen refused medical attention, Foreman said.

This is the 50th road death in 2022, according to police records. At this time last year, there were 36 fatalities.
