Young bicyclist injured in head-on crash with car on blind curve in Kansas City

A young bicyclist was seriously injured in a head-on crash with a car Wednesday evening on a blind curve in Kansas City, North, a police spokeswoman said.

The crash occurred shortly before 7 p.m. near Northeast Compton Avenue and North Bellaire Avenue, said Officer Donna Drake, a spokeswoman for the Kansas City Police Department.

The bicyclist, who was identified as a juvenile, was headed east in the westbound lanes of Compton. A silver Honda Accord rounded the curve and struck the bicyclist head-on.

The bicyclist was thrown from the bike and struck the hood, windshield and roof of the Honda before falling to the ground. He was taken to a hospital with serious injuries, Drake said. The bicyclist was in stable condition.

Police continue to investigate the the crash.
