A fourth Tidal Wave car wash could be coming to Johnson County. Here’s where
Another Tidal Wave Auto Spa is one step closer to coming to Johnson County after final plans were approved by the Shawnee Planning Commission at their regular meeting Wednesday.
The car wash would be located at 12500 Shawnee Mission Parkway, where a vacant building that used to house a Bank of Labor branch sits.
That building would be demolished and in its place, a 3,300 square foot automatic car wash would be built. According to city documents, the car wash would increase the pervious area of the site by 6,000 square feet. Pervious surfaces allow water to absorb into it like grass as opposed to concrete.
The site would include vacuum services along with the car wash. A two-lane drive through would circle counterclockwise around the site from an entrance on Long Avenue and lead cars through a pay station and into the car wash.
The 21 vacuum spaces inside the site can only be accessed through the drive through lanes, once the customer has passed through the pay station. A one way detour is planned to cut through to the vacuum spaces if customers don’t want a car wash, or they would be available to enter into at the exit of the car wash.
Commissioner Joe Van Wallegham pointed out at the meeting that once someone has entered the queue for the car wash, it is difficult to get out unless they wait until the end and take the cut-through route.
If approved by the Shawnee City Council, it will be the fourth Tidal Wave site in the area.
A Prairie Village location opened in 2020, two years after it was approved by the city.
A location opened in Mission last summer, two years after the developer dropped plans to add a second story to the proposed building and the project was narrowly approved by the Mission City Council.
The third location is in Overland Park.
According to the Tidal Wave website, services cost $10 for a tire shine and up to $40 for a full wash called the ceramic sea gloss.
