Update: On Friday, the Kansas City Police Department identified the victim as Michael Herzog, 29.

A person died late Tuesday night after being struck by two different vehicles on Interstate 435, Kansas City police said Wednesday morning.

The victim was a passenger in a maroon Toyota RAV4 that overturned after driving into a median on I-435 around 11 p.m. Tuesday night, Kansas City Police Department spokesman Sgt. Jacob Becchina said Wednesday. The driver was heading north on I-435 and collided with a median on the west side of the highway just south of 23rd Street.

The victim exited the vehicle and began to run north on I-435, Becchina said. They were first struck by a northbound maroon Chevrolet Spark and then hit a second time by a northbound red Toyota Camry.

Both drivers that struck the victim stopped their cars immediately and stayed at the scene, police said. There was no indication that either driver was impaired, and neither driver was injured.

Emergency respondents pronounced the victim dead at the scene.

The driver of the RAV4 was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries, police said.

The northbound lanes of I-435 were shut down for approximately three and a half hours.

The victim’s identity has not been released as of Wednesday morning.
