Parson to visit Kansas City to reveal statewide, business-led crime reduction effort

Gov. Mike Parson is scheduled to be in Kansas City Monday with the Missouri Chamber of Commerce and Industry to announce a statewide, business-led focus on crime.

Parson will unveil the new plans to reduce crime in Missouri at a news conference at 12:45 p.m. at the Transition Center of Kansas City, according to a news release.

The center used to be a minimum-security prison but has been converted into a residential probation and parole center for men returning to the greater Kansas City area after being incarcerated.

The effort is aimed at working with the Missouri General Assembly and the administration to pass new policies to reduce crime, according to the release.

The new plan stems from a Missouri Chamber poll that shows 70% of Missouri business leaders say crime is hurting the state’s economy.

The news conference will also include Sandra Karsten, the director of the Missouri Department of Public Safety and businesses involved in second-chance employment programs.
