Lee’s Summit police examine early morning accident, death

Police in Lee’s Summit, Mo., are investigating an early-morning accident and the death of the car’s driver.

Authorites say they were called to an accident scene near Blue Parkway and Colbern Road around 6:00 a.m. Friday. They found a car in the grass on the side of the road.

The driver, 80-year-old Andrew Casey of Independence, was declared dead at the scene. But police say it’s possible Casey suffered a medical emergency that caused the accident, and may have died of that emergency and not the crash.

“The vehicle did strike a raised curb and a small sign as it left the roadway, but it is not believed that those impacts would have been fatal,” the department’s news release said.
