23-year-old motorcyclist killed in crash on bridge over Interstate 35 in Olathe

Update: Police identified the motorcyclist killed in the crash as 23-year-old Lucas J. Scheele of Gardner.

A 23-year-old motorcyclist died from injuries suffered in a crash on a bridge over Interstate 35 in Olathe, police said.

Police responded to the single-vehicle crash about 11:15 p.m. Monday on the bridge that carries West 119th Street over I-35, said Sgt. Joel Yeldell, a spokesman for the Olathe Police Department.

The motorcyclist, who was wearing a helmet, was unresponsive by the time officers arrived. He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead, Yeldell said.
