If any kids are looking for a fun, safe activity this summer, Mayor’s Nights youth sport leagues start this weekend. The Nights leagues include Night Hoops basketball, Night Nets volleyball and Night Kicks soccer.

The kick off event will be Saturday, June 11 from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Southeast Community Center.

“Each year, I look forward to Mayor’s Night Hoops—which provides a fun, safe, and educational environment for hundreds of Kansas City’s young people each summer,” Mayor Quinton Lucas said in a statement.

Each league costs $10 per player and will be hosted at community centers around Kansas City. Youth in all three leagues are also required to attend an educational session. Sessions include ACT test preparation, job training and life skills.

Participating students can range from ages 6 to 18, depending on the sport.

Night Hoops

Night Hoops basketball league is available for elementary, middle and high school students. There are also separate leagues for boys and girls at each age.

The league will meet at Brush Creek Community Center, Garrison Community Center and Southeast Community Center throughout the summer.

The middle school teams are reserved for 11 to 14 year olds and will run from June 15 until August 22. Middle school students will meet on Saturdays from 3:30 until 10 p.m.

“Youth activities and programs like this one make a difference, and this is an important program in our goal to keep our young people engaged in positive activities and to keep our neighborhoods safe,” Mayor Lucas said in a statement.

“I’m excited to lace up on the court this season and show our kids we care about them.”
