Drivers urged to avoid northbound U.S. 69 over I-435 in Johnson County

Drivers who normally rely on northbound U.S. 69 over Interstate 435 should find alternate routes or allow extra time for their commutes.

That’s what the Kansas Department of Transportation is advising Wednesday after a bridge repair project got underway this week.

Crews on Tuesday started repairing the northbound U.S. 69 bridge over I-435.

As part of the project, the ramps from eastbound I-435 to northbound U.S. 69 and northbound U.S. 69 to westbound I-435 have been closed.

Northbound U.S. 69 has also been reduced to one lane in the construction area.

During the repairs, eastbound I-435 traffic to northbound U.S. 69 traffic is being detoured south on U.S. 69 to eastbound College Boulevard, where it will access northbound U.S. 69.

Northbound U.S. 69 to westbound I-435 is being detoured via 103rd Street to southbound U.S. 69, where it will access westbound I-435.

Drivers are being warned that major delays are expected during the peak commute times.
