Woman and dog rescued from second-story balcony at apartment fire in Overland Park
A woman and her dog were rescued Friday night after a fire was reported at an apartment complex in Overland Park.
Fire departments from Overland Park and Lenexa were called just after 8 p.m. to the Wycliff West Apartments in the 10400 block of Mastin Street, said Jason Rhodes, a spokesman for the Overland Park Fire Department.
Residents were evacuating as crews were arriving on the scene. Firefighters could see smoke and fire coming from a ground floor apartment.
Crews rescued a woman and her dog from a second-story balcony, Rhodes said.
The blaze on the ground floor had spread up, impacting several units on the second floor and into the attic area. It took about an hour before the fire was under control.
No injuries were reported.
Four apartments were damaged, resulting in five residents being displaced. The Red Cross was called in to help them, Rhodes said.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
