Motorcyclist killed in 80-90 mph crash near Truman Sports Complex in Kansas City

A motorcyclist was killed when he ran off of northbound Interstate 435 at a high speed and crashed in the median Wednesday evening, a police spokesman said.

The wreck occurred shortly after 6:30 p.m. Wednesday along northbound Interstate 435 near Stadium Drive, said Sgt. Jacob Becchina, a spokesman for the Kansas City Police Department.

The motorcyclist, who was riding a black Kawasaki ZX, was traveling between 80 and 90 mph with another motorcyclist when he failed to make a slight curve in the roadway.

The motorcyclist went straight off the road to the left and into the median, sending him and his motorcycle tumbling, Becchina said.

The driver, who was wearing a helmet, died at the scene of the crash. His death is the 26th traffic fatality in the city this year.
