Kansas City firefighters called to structure fire in three-story apartment building

The Kansas City Fire Department is actively working on a structure fire that occurred inside an apartment building Friday afternoon in the city’s Independence Plaza neighborhood.

Firefighters were called just before 3 p.m. to a three-story apartment building in the 2800 block of Independence Ave. Firefighters were alerted after Kansas City police patrol saw smoke coming from the building, said Jason Spreitzer, a fire department spokesman.

Firefighters went inside the building and conducted primary and secondary searches of the floors, Spreitzer said. No one was found inside the building.
