18-year-old motorcyclist killed in crash with RideKC bus in Kansas City

An 18-year-old motorcyclist died in a collision with a RideKC bus late Thursday morning in Kansas City, a police spokeswoman said.

The crash occurred about 11:10 a.m. just east of 75th Street and Prospect Avenue, said Officer Donna Drake, a spokeswoman for the Kansas City Police Department.

Investigators determined that a rider on a Honda CBR sport motorcycle was headed east on 75th Street. The bus was headed west on 75th and turned into a private drive in front of the motorcycle. The two vehicles collided, killing the motorcyclist, who was from Kansas City, police said.

The bus driver, who was alone at the time, was not injured. RideKC has a park and ride transit center at 75th Street and Prospect, which also serves as a stop for the Prospect Max service.

Officers had closed 75th Street between Bruce R. Watkins Drive/U.S. 71 and Prospect while they investigated the fatal wreck. The road reopened shortly before 2 p.m.

The motorcyclist is the 20th person to die in traffic crashes in Kansas City so far this year.
