Is the weather real or is it just fantasy? After last week’s cold spell, Kansas City’s forecast for the start of March is on the brighter and warmer side.

It’s supposed to get as warm as 81 degrees on Wednesday, with highs in the 60s and 70s for the rest of the week.

While the weather’s projected to be warm for the rest of the week, is this the starting point for springtime vibes, or is it a one-off before the cold comes back to bother the city? We reached out to the National Weather Service for more guidance on what Kansas Citians can expect as the weather shifts.

Hallie Bova, a meteorologist with NWS Kansas City, said it’s a quick warm up this week and then it’s back to normal March temperatures, which are around the upper 40s and lower 50s.

“It’s early March in Kansas City, so things fluctuate during this time, however, this week is looking very warm,” she said. “With several days in the 70s this week and maybe even approaching 80 on Wednesday, it’s going to feel very warm this week. Definitely very spring-like.”

She also mentioned that Kansas City residents know how spring goes around here. One week it’s warm and the next week it’s cold. The city will see it fluctuate throughout March and April and by May, it should be consistently warm.

It’s a fake spring in the city right now. Enjoy it while it’s here, as thunderstorms could be on the way over the weekend.

“We do have some cooldowns in the forecast as well, maybe back to the 40s next week for at least a few days,” Bova said. “We’re not looking at anything extremely cold right now, nothing in the single digits or anything like that. Just a slight cool.”
