American Airlines drops 48 flights from KCI amid omicron surge
It may be time to evaluate some upcoming travel plans.
American Airlines eliminated 48 flights at the Kansas City International Airport this month, Kansas City Business Journal reported.
This round of cuts comes after American Airlines canceled 77,000 flights from its 2022 roster in November. The ongoing cuts are largely due to the omicron-fueled COVID surge, which has negatively impacted workers and travel.
Despite these cuts, American is offering 200 more flights in March from KCI than it did at this time last year.
“Even with these schedule adjustments, American continues to offer the most departures in the month of March among the major U.S. carriers,” American Airlines representative Brian Methan told the Business Journal.
Flights canceled at KCI included trips to major hubs like Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport, Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, according to the Kansas City Business Journal.
KCI routes to O’Hare saw the most cuts with 23 cancellations. Philadelphia International Airport and Charlotte Douglas International Airport saw 9 and 7 less flights out of KCI, respectively.
The airline giant has a total of 842 flights scheduled at KCI for Jan.
This stage of the pandemic has brought many challenges but for the most part people are still on the go, in comparison to last year.
KCI announced that the airport saw more than a 70 percent increase in passengers traveling through the airport since 2020.
