Kansas City infant injured by falling television dies
An 8-month-old boy critically injured when a television reportedly fell on him at a Kansas City home Tuesday has died, police said Wednesday.
Police and an ambulance responded to the home in the 6700 block of South Benton Street about 11:10 a.m. Tuesday. The boy was taken to a hospital where he later died.
Police did not release the boy’s name.
An adult who was in the house at the time was taken into custody for questioning, according to police.
According to an initial police report, an upside-down plastic bucket was being used as a TV stand. An adult in the room at the time told police that he was in bed watching television when it fell on the baby, who was asleep on a blanket on the floor in front of the television.
Three other people were in the house in different rooms at the time.
Falling televisions and other furniture tipping over killed 360 children age 10 and younger from 2011 through 2013, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.
