RideKC launches warming buses in Kansas City. Here’s when and where to find them today
As temperatures dropped into the low teens Thursday morning, the city again activated its Extreme Weather Plan to help protect those experiencing homelessness from the deadly cold.
The city’s extreme weather plan is put into action when the daytime high does not exceed 32 degrees or when the overnight low is colder than 20 degrees.
As part of the plan, the city designated a select number of RideKC buses as places to warm up.
The day-to-day schedule when cold enough to implement will also depend on staffing, the city said in a news release.
Thursday’s warming bus schedule is as follows:
- East Village Transit Center: 6 a.m. to 2 p.m.
- 47th Street & State Ave. Midtown KCK Transit Center Community Room: 5:30 a.m. to 10 a.m.
- Independence Transit Center: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Mission Transit Center: 7 a.m. to 10 a.m.
The city also opened three daytime warning centers and launched an online database that tracks open beds at seven shelters across the metro.
