Kansas City-area CVS was scheduling COVID-19 vaccines, but had no doses available
A CVS in the Kansas City metro has no vaccines to distribute, leading it to cancel vaccine appointments with little warning.
Joshua Gilson, 39, a disabled Army veteran, was eager to get his COVID-19 booster vaccine before his daughter returned home from holiday travels.
His appointment at the CVS on US 71 Highway in Grandview, scheduled a week in advance for Sunday, was canceled with only a couple hours notice.
Gilson felt deceived.
A spokeswoman with CVS corporate confirmed to The Star that the Grandview location Gilson went to is not currently offering COVID-19 vaccines. The spokeswoman, however, did not provide further details.
Gilson told The Star that workers at the CVS told him their refrigeration system had broken down weeks prior. CVS declined to comment.
Vaccine appointments were still showing up as available for Pfizer vaccines at the Grandview location Tuesday morning. Gilson had signed up to receive the Pfizer booster.
“We’re in the process of turning off appointment availability for this location on CVS.com and apologize for any inconvenience this has caused,” the CVS spokeswoman said in a written statement.
She declined to say how many appointments had been canceled at that location, and for how long the vaccines had been unavailable.
CVS added that other locations in the area are still offering vaccines and have them available, including in Belton, Raymore and Kansas City.
Gilson is at-risk and worries that catching the coronavirus could be a “death sentence” for him. Thanks to what he called “simple negligence,” he won’t have his booster in time for his daughter’s arrival.
