The city of Kansas City will not be picking up trash on Monday as city staff continue to clear snow-covered roadways. As a result, all scheduled trash pick-up days will be pushed back a day.

All trash, recycling and bulky items that are typically scheduled for Monday will instead be collected on Tuesday, the city announced in a news release. Typical Tuesday pickups will be delayed to Wednesday. Typical Wednesday pickups will be delayed to Thursday and so on, through the end of the week.

About 130 Public Works, Solid Waste, Parks & Recreation and KC Water employees began working Sunday night to salt and plow area roads, city officials said.

More than 200 city staff are scheduled to continue plowing and salting roads Monday.

The city asks that Kansas Citians park off the street, if possible, to allow more room for snow plows to clear the roads.

If it’s not possible to park off the road, the city is asking that vehicles only be parked on the north and west sides of residential streets to make it easier for plows to do their work.

The snow cleanup comes following a winter storm that hit Kansas City in the early hours of the new year. Bitter cold temperatures followed Sunday and continued Monday, also leading to many school closings around the area.
