Interstate 35 near Levee Road reopened about 3:25 Friday afternoon, an hour after a loose joint on a bridge forced emergency crews to close all three southbound lanes of the interstate in North Kansas City.

The right lane of the highway between 16th Street and Levee Road is still closed, the Missouri Department of Transportation’s Kansas City office said in a Twitter post.

The highway was closed just after 2 p.m. when a metal joint on the bridge began to come loose. Traffic was diverted at 210 highway while maintenance crews assessed the situation.

Photos posted online by the transportation agency showed numerous emergency vehicles on the scene.

Motorists were advised to find an alternate route to avoid the area.
