Family asks for help funding funeral after missing teen is found dead in Kansas City

A GoFundMe has been created to help cover funeral expenses for an 18-year-old teen from Kansas City following his “sudden” disappearance.

Amara Jones was reported missing on Dec. 4, said Sgt. Jake Becchina, a spokesman for the Kansas City Police Department. Police launched a death investigation Wednesday after Jones’ body was found near the 4500 block of Hedges Avenue, close to where he lived.

Becchina said while the investigation was ongoing as of Sunday, no foul play was suspected.

Jones had eight siblings, according to the GoFundMe page, created Friday. Family described his disappearance as “sudden.”

“To ease my family financially and mentally we are raising these funds to cover funeral costs and to help bring the family together to mourn the loss of Amara,” wrote one of Jones’ siblings.

As of Sunday, the online fundraiser had received nearly $8,000. The family member organizing the page could not immediately be reached by The Star on Sunday.
