One killed in Independence crash early Friday, police say
One person was killed in a single-vehicle crash early Friday morning in Independence.
The crash happened around 1:40 a.m. as the driver was heading south on Lee’s Summit Road near Kiger Road, Sgt. Steven Boles, with the Independence Police Department’s traffic safety unit, said in a statement. Police said the vehicle left the roadway, struck a tree and rolled into a ravine.
The driver, who was alone, was ejected from the vehicle, Boles said. He died at the scene.
Police are still investigating the crash. The identity of the victim is being withheld by authorities until a next-of-kin notification is made.
