23-year-old Kansas woman killed, child injured in crash on I-435 in Wyandotte County

A 23-year-old Leavenworth woman was killed and a 3-year-old passenger was seriously injured when the vehicle they were in ran off the road and struck a pole along Interstate 435 in Kansas City, Kansas.

The driver killed in the crash was identified as Shailee Y. Viramontes, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol’s crash report. Her passenger was identified as Malachi M. Viramontes. He was taken to a hospital for treatment of suspected serious injuries.

The crash occurred shortly before 5 p.m. as the two were headed south on I-435 in a 2014 Kia Forte, according to the highway patrol.

For an unknown reason, the car left the road near where I-435 crosses over Wolcott Drive and crashed into a pole, the highway patrol said.

Both the driver and passenger were using safety restraints, according to the report.
