Thanksgiving turkeys, COVID-19 vaccines to be handed out at Kansas City event Saturday
Free Thanksgiving turkeys and COVID-19 vaccine shots will be offered during a community event this weekend organized by medical provider Swope Health in Kansas City’s Knoches Park neighborhood.
The event is scheduled from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday in the building and parking lot of Friendship Baptist Church at 3520 Chelsea Drive. Called the Community Thanksgiving Giveaway, area business partners are putting it on to help ensure Kansas City is “well-fed and healthy,” according to a news release from Swope Health.
“Many families are facing hard times this year, and the goal of this event is to provide a friendly place for anyone in the community to come receive essential items,” the release said.
Those seeking COVID-19 vaccines may receive a first, second or booster shot at the site. Doses are also available for children ages 5 to 11, who recently became eligible. The shots will be administered inside the church.
Other items that will be handed out include food, diapers and books.
Jackson County Executive Frank White and Teresa White are the co-chairs of the event.
Others sponsoring the giveaway include Community Builders of Kansas City, Blue Parkway Sun Fresh, Happy Bottoms, Harvesters, the Kansas City Public Library, Catholic Charities, the Greater Kansas City Building and Trades Construction Council and the Greater Kansas City AFL-CIO.
