Woman, 9-year-old hospitalized after crash with semi in Leavenworth County

A 33-year-old woman and a 9-year-old boy were taken to area hospitals with injuries thought to be serious early Friday following a crash involving a semi on U.S. Highway 73 in Leavenworth County.

The crash happened around 7:30 a.m. as both cars were northbound on the highway near the K-192 junction, according to a report from the Kansas Highway Patrol. The semi rear-ended the car with the woman and child, which came to rest in the middle of the intersection, the report said.

The woman and child are both from Leavenworth. They were taken to Kansas City area hospitals for treatment. Both were wearing proper safety restraints at the time of the crash, the report showed.

The truck driver was uninjured, the report said
