Ford, which has plant in Claycomo, mandates COVID-19 vaccines for most salary workers
Ford Motor Co. announced this week that it will require most of its 32,000 salaried workers to be vaccinated by early December, according to the Detroit Free Press.
Ford notified employees Tuesday that the workers would need to be vaccinated by Dec. 8 or possibly face unpaid leave, CNBC reported. The automaker will consider religious and medical exemptions for those who cannot get the vaccine. Those who do not have an approved exemption will be placed on leave for up to 30 days. After that, their job protection expires.
“The health and safety of our workforce remains our top priority and we have been very encouraged by the support of our employees to comply with our protocols, including the more than 84% of U.S. salaried employees who are already vaccinated,” spokesperson Monique Brentle said in a statement to the Free Press.
Ford, which is the first major U.S. automaker to mandate vaccines, has the Kansas City Assembly Plant in Claycomo that currently produces the F-150 and Transit vehicles. The plant has about 7,250 employees. Approximately 6,900 of those are hourly employees, according to Ford’s website.
