‘Closed for extended period’: Semi crash blocks I-435/U.S. 69 ramps in Overland Park

A semitractor-trailer overturned in a crash Tuesday before rush hour that blocked ramps at the heavily traveled Interstate 435 and U.S. 69 interchange in Overland Park.

The ramps from westbound I-435 to southbound U.S. 69 and northbound U.S. 69 to westbound I-435 “are expected to be closed for an extended period of time,” Capt. Gary Mason, a spokesman for the Overland Park Police Department, said in a news release.

The crash is also affecting the flow of traffic on I-435 in both directions in the area. Drivers are encourage to find alternative routes for their morning commute.

The semi crashed shortly after 5 a.m. when the driver lost control, causing the semi to overturn and block access to two ramps. The driver escaped with minor injuries.
