One person is dead after a semi-truck struck a woman early Friday morning in Olathe.

About 4:40 a.m., police were called to the scene after a semi-truck struck a pedestrian at the intersection of Old 56 Highway and South Chestnut Street, according to the Olathe Police Department.

When officers arrived they found a woman who was dead at the scene. The woman was between 40 and 50 years old, police said.

The driver of the semi-truck remained at the scene and was not injured, police said.

Westbound Old 56 Highway will be temporarily closed at South Chestnut Street. Eastbound Old 56 Highway will be closed at South Weaver Street. Alternate routes will be required.
