Severe storm warning expired, but watch remains in effect
Most of the Kansas City area remains under a severe thunderstorm watch until 1 a.m.
The National Weather Service issued that alert shortly before 6 p.m. The alert includes Johnson, Wyandotte and Leavenworth counties in Kansas and Jackson, Clay and Platte counties in Missouri.
Much of the area also is under a flash flood watch.
