One person was killed and two others were injured Wednesday afternoon following a head-on crash in Kansas City’s Oak Park neighborhood, according to police.

Police were called shortly after 4 p.m. to the intersection of Emanuel Cleaver II and Benton boulevards on a reported crash, Sgt. Jake Becchina, a police spokesman, said in a statement. Investigators found that a silver Honda was westbound when it crossed the center line and hit another car that was traveling east.

The driver of the silver Honda, identified by police as a 49-year-old man, died at the scene of the crash, police said. Two women in the other car were taken to an area hospital with injuries described by police as non-life-threatening.

Police shut down Emanuel Cleaver II Boulevard between Chestnut Avenue and Benton Boulevard for approximately two hours as the crash was investigated.
