A Kansas City man was killed Saturday evening after he was struck by a train in downtown Parkville, police said.

At about 6:53 p.m. Saturday, Christopher Burdick, 43, was hit by a westbound BNSF train as he crossed a sidewalk on Main Street, said Capt. Jon D. Jordan, a spokesman with the Parkville Police Department.

Burdick was pronounced dead at the scene, Jordan said.

The train crossing signals were activated prior to Burdick being struck, according to police.

Burdick was out at dinner with family Saturday evening and was struck by the train after walking someone to their car.

The Parkville Police Department is investigating the crash.
