Memorial services planned for Independence man who drowned in Arkansas river

A memorial service for 22-year-old Curtis Miller of Independence, who drowned last week in an Arkansas river, is planned for this weekend.

It will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at the Roger T. Sermon Community Center, 201 N. Dodgion St., in Independence.

Miller, who was on his first paid vacation last week, drowned when he was swept away in the Buffalo National River Thursday. The river was running high and fast because of downpours from the remnants of Tropical Depression Bill.
