Northbound I-435 in Kansas City reopens following fatal crash
Northbound Interstate 435 in Kansas City reopened at around 9 a.m. Monday after being closed while authorities investigated a crash that left one person dead.
The accident occurred at about 7 a.m. along northbound I-435 near Blue Parkway.
A Toyota Corolla lost control on I-435 near Blue Parkway and struck the inside guardrail before before stopping in the interstate’s inside lane, according to a Kansas City police accident report. A Toyota Camry, also northbound on I-435, then struck the Corolla. The driver of the Corolla was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries; doctors later pronounced him dead.
Both cars had single occupants. The driver of the Camry stopped and waited for emergency personnel after the collision.
Officers routed traffic off the interstate at 63rd Street while authorities investigated the crash and cleared the wreckage.
The fatal crash was one of at least two that kept emergency workers busy along I-435. Emergency crews worked an injury crash along southbound I-435 just north of Blue Parkway/Missouri 350. That crash occurred about 7:20 a.m.
Details on the extent of the injuries were not immediately available.
