Storms temporarily knock power out at KCI airport
The power is back on at Kansas City International Airport, which was hit by a brief outage caused by severe weather on Sunday afternoon.
At around 1:40 p.m. Sunday, KCI marketing manager Joe McBride announced the outage on Twitter and said travelers should expect flight delays and cancellations. At around 2 p.m., McBride tweeted that the power had returned, but that travelers should still expect delays.
Airport officials are encouraging travelers to go online or call their airline — and not to call the airport — for flight status and information.
Kansas City Power & Light reported about 60 power outages at 2:15 p.m., most of them to the north and east of Kansas City, as a line of showers and thunderstorms stretched east. Most of the region was under a severe thunderstorm watch.
