Bridge work at I-435 and I-35 will cause overnight detours, delays

Kansas Department of Transportation

Johnson County drivers can expect overnight detours and delays early this week as crews set bridge girders as part of the Johnson County Gateway project at the Interstate 435 and I-35 interchange.

All lanes of westbound I-435 from Quivira Road to I-35 and northbound lanes of I-35 to the westbound I-435 ramp will be closed from 10 p.m. Monday to 5 a.m. Tuesday and from 10 p.m. Tuesday to 5 a.m. Wednesday, weather permitting.

Marked detours will be provided. Westbound I-435 will detour through northbound U.S. 69. Northbound I-35 will detour through 95th Street.

The $288 million Gateway project is the Kansas Transportation Department’s largest ever and is intended to address traffic problems and improve efficiency and safety within the Interstate 435/Interstate 35/Kansas 10 interchange, which is used by more than 230,000 vehicles a day.

Updated daily traffic information for the project can be viewed at: www.jocogateway.com.

The current phase of the project is scheduled to be substantially completed by the end of 2016.
