KC teen accidentally shoots self in chest

An 18-year-old remained hospitalized in critical condition Wednesday after accidentally shooting himself in the chest while looking at a handgun Tuesday evening in Kansas City, police said.

According to an initial police report, the victim and a 17-year-old friend were looking at a handgun about 7 p.m. in the 2000 block of Park Tower.

As the victim pointed the gun at his chest, the weapon fired.

Officers recovered the firearm.
