Truman Courthouse closes after county employees test positive for coronavirus

The Jackson County Historic Truman Courthouse in Independence closed Thursday after “several county employees” tested positive for COVID-19.

The closure was announced in a news release on Jackson County’s website.

The courthouse — which houses Jackson County’s Recorder of Deeds, assessment and collection offices — will remain closed through Sept. 20, the release said.

Anyone who has business in those offices, the release said, can visit jacksongov.org or the Jackson County Courthouse in Kansas City.

As of Thursday, more than 6,200 people in Jackson County and 9,900 in Kansas City have tested positive for the coronavirus. More than 33,000 people have tested positive in the Kansas City metropolitan area, according to data maintained by The Star.
