Want to see Kansas City’s new Black Lives Matter street murals? Here’s what to know
Hundreds of people spent Saturday painting the six Black Lives Matter murals on Kansas City streets. Next, it’s the public’s chance to enjoy them.
The roads around them will be closed until Monday morning, so the best time to view the murals — before cars can drive on them — may be Sunday afternoon. But the murals will be around for quite awhile: Sunday morning, after doing the finishing touches, crews were set to apply a strong sealant on all the artworks.
Each mural features “Black Lives Matter” in big block letters. Six local Black artists filled in those letters with their own designs.

The project, KC Art on the Block, is believed to be the largest of its kind and spans 2,000 feet of street.
The murals are the first piece of a three-part project. Up next: Vertical Black Lives Matter murals on walls. The last piece is to create a blueprint for others to add murals to their own neighborhood streets.
