Operation LeGend in KC: 288 arrests, including 24 homicide suspects, prosecutor says

Kansas City and federal authorities have made 288 arrests as part of crime-fighting Operation LeGend effort, including 24 suspects connected to homicide investigations, U.S. Attorney Tim Garrison announced on Friday.

Included among those arrested since the initiative began last month are 61 federal defendants. Among the others were 72 fugitives wanted on either state or federal warrants. There were 131 non-fugitive arrests on state criminal charges, according to a news release.

Authorities also have seized 89 firearms during Operation LeGend, which is named after 4-year-old LeGend Taliferro, who was fatally shot in June as he slept in a Kansas City apartment. Prosecutors have since charged Ryson Ellis, 22, of Kansas City, in his killing.

The operation was launched last month to combat violence in Kansas City.

On Wednesday, U.S. Attorney General William Barr announced in Kansas City that almost 1,500 arrests have been made nationwide as part of the anti-crime effort.
