Man in 70s found dead at scene of house fire in Grandview Tuesday morning, police say

Firefighters discovered the body of a man believed to be in his 70s inside a burning house early Tuesday in Grandview, a fire spokesman said.

A neighbor reported seeing a slight haze of smoke around 5:30 a.m. in the 8200 block of East 135th Street. Police and firefighters responded to the area where they found smoke coming from a house in the neighborhood, said Grandview deputy chief and fire marshal Rodney Baldwin.

While attacking the fire, firefighters discovered the man deceased at the bottom of the stairs inside the home, Baldwin said.

The cause of the fire was not immediately available. Yellow tape surrounded the house while officials investigated the fire.
