Mother, daughter identified as victims of fatal house fire in Cass County

A mother and daughter were found dead Sunday after a house caught fire in rural Cass County, according to the sheriff’s office.

They have been identified as Janet M. Strange-Doubledee, 64, and her daughter, Sarah F. Doubledee, 23, the Cass County Sheriff’s Office said Monday.

Deputies and firefighters from the Central Cass County Fire Protection District were called after receiving a report of a house fire around 4:30 p.m. The house, located south of Harrisonville in the 25000 block of East 317th Street, was engulfed in flames.

At the time, first responders believed the home was occupied, the sheriff’s office said. Two people, later identified as Strange-Doubledee and Doubledee, were found dead inside.

The Cass County Fire Investigation Team and Missouri State Fire Marshal’s Office are investigating the cause of the fire.

Firefighters from Harrisonville, Dolan-West Dolan, Adrian and Garden City assisted at the scene.
