Two pedestrians were struck by vehicles during protests in Columbia on Monday
In separate incidents Monday, two pedestrians were struck by vehicles during protests at the intersection of Broadway and Providence in Columbia.
Columbia Police and the Columbia Fire Department responded to a vehicle collision involving a pedestrian at approximately 8:15 p.m. Monday, according to Columbia Police. A 25-year-old woman was taken by ambulance to an emergency room with non-life threatening injuries.
At 8:52 p.m., Columbia Police responded to a 21-year-old who was hit by a four-door sedan. The woman reported that she asked the driver to turn the vehicle around, but the driver refused.
“Members of the crowd reported that the vehicle proceeded forward and collided with the pedestrian,” Columbia Police said. “Medics were on scene to treat the pedestrian, but she refused treatment. The driver was described as a white male with blonde/brown hair who fled the scene of the accident.”
A GoFundMe page has been set up for one of the struck pedestrians, with a goal of raising $10,000.
No suspects have been identified in either incident, Columbia Police said.
