A young boy and a man were hospitalized after they were struck by pickup trucks while crossing streets hours apart in Kansas City, police said.

The truck was heading east on Morrell when the child, who’d been on the sidewalk, ran out in front of the truck, police said. The driver didn’t see the child and hit and dragged him with the front of the truck.

The child was taken to the hospital with critical injuries.

Hours later and about 10 miles south, a black Dodge Ram 1500 was driving south on Cleveland Avenue and struck an adult man with the front of his truck as he ran across the street near the intersection of East 67th Terrace, police said.

The man was taken to the hospital with critical injuries about 9:35 p.m., police said. The driver of the truck was not injured.
